Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The early years foundation stage sets the statutory standards that all early years providers must meet. This includes all maintained schools, non-maintained schools, independent schools and all providers on the Early Years Register.
The EYFS aims to provide:
- Quality and consistency in all early years settings
- A secure foundation that will allow all children good progress through school and life
- Partnerships between different practitioners
- Partnerships between parents or carers and practitioners
- Equality of opportunity for all children.
Prime areas are:
- Communication and language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and emotional development.
Specific areas are:
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding of the World
- Expressive arts and design.
Of course these are just a few of the many areas we concentrate on and, because every child is unique and have very different needs, we provide regular meetings with your children’s key person to work on various aspects of your child’s development to ensure each child is getting the very best start in life.
Children have access to sports equipment in the school hall which not only gets them active but helps to integrate them into primary school when they leave us. Sports are actively encouraged outside as well with various activities including bikes and trikes and, as we have access to the school field, sport can go a stage further by holding an annual sports day as well as a sponsored assault course.
Children have access to tablets so that the children can enjoy a double-pronged learning experience by using I.T. equipment. All this, as well as our high staff ratio which allows for specific needs to be met, makes Teynham Community Pre-school the perfect place for their crucial early years learning and development.
Characteristics of learning:
We use the Chracteristics of learning to observe and monitor your child's development. There are three main aspects that we will be looking at when observing your child at Pre -School.
These are:
- Playing and exploring
-Active learning
- Creating and thinking critically
When we observe the children we will also be thinking about there characteristic of learning. We think about how invovled the children are, are they just exploring or are they having their own ideas or looking at new ways to do things.
